Next Time, I'm Serving YOU.
Mar. 31st, 2008 07:49 pmThe past month has been crazy up-and-down this past month, and I know I owe y'all a "catch up list" sometime soonish, so I'll just post a bit of recent positive n
ews.
On Sunday. my wife
jadra and I (along with
lovestobebitten in tow) headed down to Austin to spend some time with
turandot and
coldjones before they head to the Land of Eternal RainSeattle for the Summer. We were treated to the absolute best fish tacos I have ever had anywhere... but I'll be darned if I can remember the name of the restaurant. Guys, seriously, the salsa (fresh cilantro, chunky tomato) and the fish tacos were so good, I could totally forgive the restaurant for using this horrible Larabie-rip-off Taco Bell font for the menu header.
We also did a quick tour of the flagship Whole Foods in Austin. It was a strong act of willpower to work out of that store only getting $19 dollars worth of stuff (insulated bag, grapes, fresh grated Parmesan, and two thin wedges of cheese [red wax rind Gouda, and ricotta made form sheep's milk]). Sadly, while there were also plenty of tempting drinks both alcoholic (ginger infused sake, and what I presume was a fridge full of micro-brewery beers and pale ales) and non (micro-brewed root beer, green tea seltzers and sodas), there was not a bottle of that bitter Italian soda that I was hoping they'd have. I haven't had any since I was last in Little italy in the City years ago, and for some odd reason, I've been craving that really badly lately.
Back to Casa Del Jemmy to coo and aww over the completely adorable kitten Boris, and then a few hours of time on the Wii. We played Wii Sports and had a blast. I nearly beat Chris in Tennis, and had great fun getting my ass handed to me in the other sports we tried (Golf, and Bowling). The experience cinched it; Michelle really, really wants a Wii now.
Traffic issues aside, it was really nice to to get out of the house for a day and spend a few hours basking in some fun & positivity for a change. Plus, don't let
turandot or
coldjones say otherwise; they are wonderful hosts and such a happy, cute couple that it was a joy to spend some time in their company. We're going to miss them, even if it is just for the Summer, as with the two of them gone, it's going to be one less thing that makes Texas awesome.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention getting to stop at the Elite Circle Grill for dinner in Waco. The inside is like "art deco upscale diner" but the prices were very reasonable, the Oyster Po'Boy way delicious, and I think I could subsist on the honey-infused dinner rolls with creamy butter-mixed-with coconut until the end of my days.
